N8-01 Touch and Play Concept Improves the Existing N8 (Video)

Many people are discontent with the current Nokia N8, so they dream about changing the handset and improving its specifications. Iffan Morasilp from Thailand stopped dreaming and started designing, so he created the Nokia N8-01 Touch and Play handset. You’ll learn the specs of the concept after the break.
The smartphone comes with a 3.7 inch Gorilla Glass display, an 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with support for 1080p video capture, a D-pad and gaming keys. HDMI is also on board, as well as support for 4G connectivity and Dolby Digital Plus. It’s very likely that this is a Symbian^3 phone, although most of the Nokia concepts we’ve seen lately are based on MeeGo…
Do you fancy such an N8 upgrade?

Actually, the Nokia N10 MeeGo phone might become real in a matter of months, so it’s a bit unfair to call this design a concept. The idea of the phone below belongs to Peter Lackman, who created the Nokia N10, based on Nokia and Intel’s jointly developed platform.
No specs list sadly, but we know the handset comes with a huge screen (4 inches maybe?), the 12MP camera on the N8 plus quad LED flash, HDMI and a 4 row tilt hinge QWERTY keyboard. NFC is also included and there’s a nifty video showing the MeeGo UI running on the concept right here:

Can’t really say what’s lacking from this handset… Gigs of internal memory? WiMAX? A projector? What else?
Here’s the Nokia cellphone concept of 2030, in case you wanted a taste of the future… Created by Jim Chan, the Nokia 2030 features a scratch-resistant finished body, plus a full color display and an illuminated touch keypad.
Fast messaging is the purpose of this unit and we learn that the phone measures 2 x 4.75 x 0.25 inches and attaches colored films at the rear, to change its color. Polished titanium is the choice of metal for the case area that protects the screen. This handset looks like some sort of futuristic keycard that grants access to a high tech facility and we bet it’ll have e-wallet features and a transparent UI.
We’re back with another Nokia MeeGo concept phone, this time one with present day specs, so no futuristic features here. We’re talking about the Nokia Aura, packing a 4 inch touchscreen display, a slim case and a 12MP camera with Xenon flash, plus HDMI. Basically, this MeeGo phone is a bigger N8 with a very appealing design.
The device’s profile is convex on both sides, something you won’t find on many mobile phones, plus it’ll aid with the ergonomics. Nokia Aura’s body is made out of aluminum, for a lighter handset and a more quality feel to it. The rest of the devices specs include a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, a camera button and a microUSB connector.
What do you think about this Nokia N8 upgrade?
Foldable phones are a niche that wasn’t exploited by designers lately, but we got the trend back thanks to Chris Wang, who created the Nokia E10 concept. This device looks really nice and comes with a foldable display, that’s made out of flexible material.
Also, the screen is thin enough to roll around a 6 mm axis, thus saving space. Nokia E10 is all about flexibility, both in interface and design, so it becomes a normal phone when folded up, allowing you to use a standard touchscreen. Through it you’ll make phone calls, send texts and mail, play games and perform other standard activities.
If you unfold the handset, you’ll turn it into a tablet-like unit, supporting high-def pictures and video viewing plus extra space for web browsing. Touch control is also supported and the unit is powered with the aid of 3 solar batteries, that are complemented by a Lithium battery. This is possibly the most complex MeeGo device we’ve seen so far, so we say congratulations to the designer, Chris Wang.
I guess that this is the first MeeGo concept phone, unless we’ve missed a handset or two lately. The folks of mynokiablog recently received a tip concerning the Nokia E5x, the concept you can see below. Created by Alberto Pietrobon, a BSc student in Sweden, this device is all about business.
We learn that the E5x is follow-up the E5 that brings forth a design similar to the original phone, plus useful features, like a front QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera and al the goodness you can get out of the MeeGo OS. Alberto considers this the perfect Nokia phone. What do you say?
Here’s a more unusual concept this time, the Nokia Wallet X70, shown in the images below and created by the dotekomanie.blog.mobilmania.cz website. We’re dealing with a handset that has wallet functionality and can also make phone calls. It can carry your cash and credit card, write SMS messages, take pictures, it supports GPS functions and includes a music player.
Nokia X70 features two cameras, one for video chat upfront and the other a 5MP unit for photographing and video capture. The latter also incorporates a dual LED flash and the handset comes with nifty specs like a capacitive touchscreen, a full QWERTY keyboard, speakers, WiFi and Bluetooth. The internal memory is 8GB, plus an SD card slot for extra storage.
The OS of choice on this phone is the older S60 5th edition. Would you carry this gizmo inside your pocket?
Nokia N950 is the creation of Vladimir Zorin, an interesting upgrade of the N900 design. The device is able to slide in two directions, revealing a 3 row QWERTY keyboard in one sliding direction and a numeric pad plus the D Pad segment of the QWERTY slider in the other.
The handset looks pretty bulky and we bet MeeGo would fit right on. The first type of sliding mechanism, shown in the image above is designed rather for nostalgics, than for practical use. Who would need numeric keys once we have a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard available?
Vladimir Zorin recently showed us one of his Nokia concept phones, that has yet to receive a name. This original device is far from the Nokia models we currently known and it adopts a bold and innovative design, using a square screen segment that’s bigger than the main body of the handset.
We suppose that this is in fact a square phone and that the keypad piece is able to rotate underneath the screen, but that’s only our speculation. If so, the display would be a touchscreen and the device would become ideal for tweens. What do you say
How about a new Nokia design based on eco-friendly technologies? Patrick Hyland created the interesting Nokia E-Cu concept, that can be charged simply by using heat. The handset integrates a thermogenerator, that turns heat into electrical energy, so while in your pocket the device can get charged.
The E-Cu name is a combo between Environment (E) and Copper (Cu) and we learn that this phone is surrounded by a copper layer with engraved heatsinks. You’ll never need a phone charger for this piece of gear, so you’ll be saving Mother Nature again. We have to say that this is quite a slim device, with a solid design and a strong idea behind it.
Let’s hope it becomes real!
