Icaro, Just a Sketch for Now

board user albero23 has just shown the world his brand new Sony Ericsson concept, the Icaro, that’s in the sketch phase for now. From what I can see, we’re dealing with a foldable device, that packs a multi-touch display and can change purpose, according to the form factor it uses.
You can unfold the phone and visualise a huge display, make it a compact smartphone, turn one of its sides into a keyboard and much more.
It seems that Samsung have another budget touchscreen phone in store for us besides the already available Samsung S5230 Star - meet the Samsung S3650. It's got a quite compact design, unique colors and a 200 euro price tag. And it's almost knocking on your door due for release within 10 September. Samsung are ready to introduce their next low-end cheap touchscreen phone. Next in line after the S5230 Star and the S5600 Preston is called Samsung S3650 (codenamed Corby) and comes in extremely compact and unique design. The handset's front is painted with standard black color while the rear panel shines in yellow.
The smallish rounded S3650 (called internally Corby - it should have another marketing pet name) has a 2.8-inch QVGA touch display, a 2 megapixel camera, quad-band GSM connectivity, Bluetooth, FM radio and microSD card slot. The S3650 is only 13mm thin and weighs 92 grams. Following the recent trends, the Samsung S3650 will also come with native social networking integration including MySpace, Facebook and YouTube. The Samsung S3650 is supposed to hit Europe before 10 September with a retail price of 200 euro. Even better - it has also passed the FCC scrutiny so the US should have it soon as well. We really hope that price will go down to at least 150 euro as otherwise it would be really hard for it to beat tough competition such as that of Nokia 5530 XpressMusic - the third most popular phone in our database. Bear in mind though, that Samsung have not officially announced the S3650, so we're yet to hear all the details from the horse's mouth.
Today Nokia unveiled the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition - a full GPS-centric variant of the Nokia 5800 XpresMusic. Using the momentum gained by the original XpressMusic handset, the new gadget matches the functionality of its predecessor almost perfectly. The main differences are the added lifetime Drive and Walk navigation license and the cool looking stand and car charger that allow you to easily use the phone as an in-car SatNav unit.
There's only one other difference compared to the original model according to the data sheet of the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. It will be available in Chrome and Black color combo rather than any of the two-colored versions of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will come in three different flavors, each packing quad-band GSM connectivity. Two of them will also pack WLAN and dual-band 3G with HSDPA, while the third one (we are guessing it will be available in either China or some emerging markets) will lack both connectivity options.
Unfortunately, judging by the promo video published, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition's 3.2" screen seems to be as poor under direct sunlight as the one of the first S60 5th edition handset. Considering that the handset is meant to sit on your dashboard, frequently exposed to sunlight, this flaw might make it somewhat less than a perfect travel companion. But never mind our concerns, here goes the video in question for you to check out. It introduces the keys features of the Nokia 5800 Navigation edition and demonstrates the last version of Ovi Maps GPS navigation software that comes preinstalled. Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will start shipping before the end of the current quarter for an estimated 285 euro before taxes or subsidies.
board user Jozef Kocúr is quickly becoming one of the important names of the Sony Ericsson amateur design segment, by creating more and more Yanq series handsets. We’ve got the original Sony Ericsson Yanq concept over here and the Pro version right here and now there’s even a Yanq HD to have a look at.
And boy is this smartphone powerful! There’s a 4 inch OLED display on board, together with the NVIDIA Tegra platform, Windows Mobile 6.5 (can be updated to Windows Mobile 7), a 12.1 megapixel camera with autofocus and Xenon flash, HD video recording, HSDPA, WiFi and aGPS.
Last time, we were pretty sure that Jozef would an old iPhone concept name series (normal device, Pro version and then Elite), but I see that he has gone the Samsung Omnia way.
After the XPERIA X2 got somewhat official, since tons of leaks have revealed its looks and specs, it’s time to move on to the future of Sony Ericsson’s smartphone series. This is why we’ve been seeing so many XPERIA X5 concepts on the Esato board, the latest being Shane A. Bygrave’s design, you can check out below.
This time we’re dealing with an Android version of the X5, one that weighs 138 grams, measures 110 x 55 x 17mm an comes in 2 colours: Oceanic Blue and Vinyls Red. As far as specs are concerned, the device comes with a primary 4 inch multi-touch OLED display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, dual speakers, Android OS, a QWERTY slide out keyboard and portable screen.
4G connectivity is also supported, together with quad-band, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA, USB, aGPS and there’s also built-in GPS among the features. An AMD Mobile Technology 1GHZ processor is running the show from underneath the case, accompanied by an Nvidia 3D graphic chipset, 1GB RAM, 2GB ROM and SD/MMC/MC card slot (external memory max 1TB).
There’s also an 8.1 megapixel camera on board with Photo Fix, touch focus, video recording and a VGA videocall cam, plus music features like MegaBass and TrackID. The best feature of this phone has got to be the X5’s wireless detachable screen, that’ll provide many hours of multimedia entertainment.
board user JOJO2531 created some very cool Sony Ericsson concept phones and now we learn an incredible fact about him: his name is Jozef Kocúr (as shown on the concepts) and he’s only 16 years old. Knowing all of these, his latest work, the Sony Ericsson Yanq smartphone becomes even more incredible.
We’re dealing with a Windows Mobile 6.5 device, with a 3.5 inch OLED display, an 8 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, aGPS, 16:9 screen ratio, WiFi, Bluetooth and HSDPA. The handset’s body is very slim and there are lots of colourful covers to have fun with.
Clear Audio Experience is also supported and you can have a look at more pics of the side, front and back of the Sony Ericsson Yanq concept in the images below.
Excuse the ironic title, but it’s funny to see major sites like Engadget taking the Sony Ericsson Jalou T650i concept for a real device. Congrats to the folks of Esato (user LEFTHORSE, if I’m not mistaking) for making such a believable Photoshop render, based on Sony Ericsson W995.
This cameraphone will seemingly run Symbian and support WiFi, plus it packs a GPS chipset and also supports HSDPA connectivity. This is probably the second time that I can spot both the Cyber-shot and Walkman brands on a single device and I’m really wondering what the megapixel count on this phone is… 8MP? Maybe 10?
What do you think? Would you mistake Sony Ericson T650i for a real product?
Esato board user JOJO2531 (or J&K, as he signs the designs) created two pretty interesting Sony Ericsson concepts, that we’ve shown you previously. I’m talking about SE W907 and SE C907 and there’s a new handset to have a look at, T907.
Also, Sony Ericsson C907 had only its picture published, no specs, so here they are: a 3.5 inch multitouch display, Android 2.0, a 12.1 megapixel camera with autofocus and HD video recording, aGPS, WiFi, HSDPA and Wayfinger navigation 9.0.
It seems that the 3 concept phones mentioned above are part of the White Touch Series, that the designer sees as 2010 devices.
The newcomer of the day is certainly Sony Ericsson T907, a touchscreen slider, with a 3 inch multitouch display, Symbian S60 5th edition, a 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, aGPS, WiFi, HSDPA and stylish accessories.
Below you can see the phone pictured in white and pink. Its design is timple and stylish, but a bit too square-ish for my taste. What do you think?
