Sony Ericsson Rachael gets specs and a proper name – XPERIA X3

It’s only been a short while since we last saw Sony Ericsson Rachel heading our news column. Online retailer Expansys has just published the specs of the device and revealed the name XPERIA X3.

Following their unusual marketing strategy, Expansys have yet again published an unannounced handset making the news and gaining popularity by spilling the beans on information they obviously have straight from the manufacturer.

You probably remember X3 (Rachael) from its previous public appearances in black and white.

Unlike its predecessor(s), the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 (codenamed Rachael) will run Android OS but the proprietary 3D panel user interface, the X1 was known for, will still be there.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 will feature a 4-inch touchscreen display with the unusual resolution of 852 x 480 pixels. The 800 x 400 pixel resolution reported by Expansys is more likely a mistake as the screen aspect ratio is different. The 852 x 480 pixel one sounds more probable as confirmed by a leaked portrait video that we've reported on before.

The XPERIA X3 also has an 8 megapixel autofocus snapper with LED flashlight and capability of shooting VGA videos at 30 fps. VGA video recording may not sound like much these days, but it will definitely be a first for an Android smartphone.

And the specs list goes on, of course. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 should also pack HSDPA, Wi-Fi and stereo Bluetooth support and a GPS receiver. On board is also a 3.5mm audio jack and a miniUSB port.

QWERTY-enabled Nokia 6760 slide to hit Europe

Nokia Surge went on sale a couple of days ago and now we hear about its European brother - the Nokia 6760 slide. The main update that the 6760 has got concerns its camera, which now has 3 megapixel resolution instead of 2MP. The lack of carrier branding pretty much rounds up the rest of the differences.

The Nokia 6760 slide, just like the Nokia Surge is a Symbian-powered, side-slider with a full QWERTY keyboard and 3.6Mbps HSDPA. There's quad-band GSM support and the local connectivity is covered by Bluetooth, microUSB and a 2.5 mm audio jack.

The AT&T Navigator is replaced with Nokia maps and the phone is packed to the brim with messaging software. Nokia Messaging, Google Talk, Windows Live IM are there right out of the box and the 6760 slide will give you easy access to social-media favorites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

The feature list of the 6760 is completed by 128 MB of internal memory, expandable by up to 8GB through the microSD card slot (2GB one provided), as well as FM radio. Standby time is the respectable 500 hours with 5 hours of talk time.

The Nokia 6760 slide will be available in Q3 2009 for 199 euro before subsidies and taxes. Initially it will only be available in black, with red and white versions coming soon after that (though not everywhere it seems).

There’s a 5 megapixel camera at the back and the mystery Compass feature on its specs list, that Shane promised to reveal later. What do you think about this design? What Sony Ericsson series would this device fit in?

T-Mobile Samsung T749 Highlight burns with 3G, has a cool touch

Samsung really have a thing for touch phones - and now there's a new one headed to T-Mobile. It's called the Samsung T749 Highlight and it's 3G capable (Internet services being a focal point) and running the widget-happy TouchWiz.

Sporting a 3" WQVGA touchscreen, capable of displaying up to 16 million colors, Samsung T749 Highlight stands at 108 x 54 x 13.7 mm and 105 grams. The Highlight offers quad-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA (it covers the two T-Mobile's frequencies).

The T749 Highlight is a social creature with email and support for AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger. In short - the on-screen full QWERTY keyboard won't catch a break.

On the local connectivity side the Samsung T749 Highlight offers USB and Bluetooth with A2DP, to be put to good use by the music player, which supports MP3, AAC and WMA. The camera is a 3 megapixel snapper with video recording, lacking any goodies like autofocus and the like.

The Highlight will be available in two colors - Fire and Ice (black on blue and orange on red) and it's coming this month. It will set you back 149.99 US dollars if you are willing to sign a two-year contract.

Fujitsu : un nouveau netbook dans les tuyaux

Fujitsu, jamais en panne d’un netbook, vient d’annoncer un nouvel ultra-portable, le M2010, suite relativement logique du M1010. Il s’agit d’un Loox M disposant d’un processeur Atom N270 ou N280, 1 Go de RAM et 160 Go de disque dur.

Pour le reste, le netbook intègre un écran de 10,1 pouces (1024 x 576), une webcam d’1,3 mégapixel, le Bluetooth et le wifi. L’engin sera disponible en quatre coloris pour un prix encore inconnu.

Acer : l’Aspire One 11,6 pouces en photos

Après les petites informations supplémentaires (lire cette actu), on en voit un peu plus à propos de l’Aspire One 751 d’Acer, via des images de presse diffusées sur le site allemand du constructeur.

En bref, rien qu’on ne sache déjà, si ce n’est un facteur de forme plutôt réussi et un clavier qui prend vraiment toute la place qui lui est disponible !

MSI LANCE SON IMAC TACTILE

MSI se lance sur le marché du tout-en-un façon iMac, mais avec une touche tactile en plus, avec le Wind Top AE1900 ! Cet ordinateur au design plutôt agréable avec son écran 18,5 pouces tactile (1366 x 768), un processeur Atom 230 cadencé ŕ 1,6 Ghz, 1 Go de RAM, 160 Go de disque dur, le wifi n, un lecteur de cartes mémoire, 4 ports USB, un port Ethernet, une webcam 1,3 mégapixel, 2 enceintes 3 watts, un graveur de DVD, un clavier et une souris (ça peut toujours servir…). L’engin sera disponible en juin pour 599 euros. Mieux vaudra donc ne pas l’utiliser au moment d’attaquer son McDo…

Nokia N900 : une tablette Internet avec clavier

Nokia lancera très prochainement une nouvelle tablette Internet baptisée N900 et succédant au modèle N810. On la connaît également sous le nom de code Rover.

 Propulsée par un processeur TI OMAP 3430 cadencé à 500 ou 600 MHz et équipée de 1 Go de mémoire vive, elle fonctionne avec la plate-forme mobile Linux Maemo 5. La fiche technique annonce une compatibilité GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WAP, UMTS, HSDPA et Wi-Fi. Elle évoque également la présence d'une puce pour la navigation GPS, une interface tactile 3,5 pouces affichant 65 536 couleurs dans une résolution 800 x 480 pixels, un appareil photo numérique 5 Mégapixels avec autofocus et double flash LED, un capteur VGA en façade et un lecteur multimédia.

Pour le stockage des données, on dispose de 32 Go de mémoire interne et d'une possibilité d'extension à 48 Go grâce à un slot microSDHC acceptant les cartes jusqu'à 16 Go. Le transfert s'effectue quant à lui par USB, Bluetooth ou Wi-Fi. Nokia a prévu de fournir une batterie 1 320 mAh dont l'autonomie reste inconnue pour le moment. Prix et disponibilité : La tablette Internet sera lancée en Asie et Europe de l'Est en juillet prochain, tandis qu'il faudra attendre jusqu'au mois d'octobre pour la voir arriver dans nos contrées.

With only several days remaining to the start of the Nokia World event, we can already feel the excitement building up. We already got one announcement yesterday just to warm us up but we are certainly hoping that more will follow once things get rolling in Stuttgart on 1 September.

After the preview that popped up yesterday we were quite confident in predicting that the Nokia N97 Mini will be one of the new devices to be announced at this year's Nokia World. The trimmed-down version of the company multimedia flagship has now made another unofficial appearance, through a leaked press shot. It certainly doesn't give any more information that we already have, but it's another confirmation that the actual launch of the handset cannot be far away.

The other device that made an appearance in similar fashion is the Nokia N900 former tablet. Again previewed ahead of announcement, the Maemo-based smartphone is certainly quite far ahead in its development and it will hardly be a surprise if we see it announced next week. And it certainly looks like a real beauty at those official shots, right?

ACER : UN NETBOOK HD À LECTEUR OPTIQUE

Acer mise sur marque Aspire One en annonçant un nouveau netbook, l’Aspire One 571, basé sur le D250 mais en mieux : l’ultra-portable est motorisé par un processeur N280 cadencé ŕ 1,66 Ghz, un écran 10,1 pouces (1 280 x 720), intčgre un co-processeur Quartics Q1721, capable de décoder des vidéos HD et h.264, et dispose en plus d’un lecteur/graveur de DVD ! Il y a męme un disque VDrive placé sur la gauche du trackpad, amovible et embarquant 1 Go de stockage. On n’a pas plus d’infos concernant ce netbook plutôt impressionnant sur le papier.

DELL : UN NETBOOK SOUS ANDROID ?

Dell est-il en train de mitonner un netbook sous Android ? C’est la rumeur qui court et le moins qu’on puisse dire, c’est qu’elle est encore parcimonieuse - on manque en effet cruellement de détails ! L’information provient de la société Bsquare, qui a annoncé plancher sur le portage de Flash Lite sur les futurs netbooks de Dell sous Android… Il semble que les ultra-portables en question soient en fait le Mini 910, ou Mini 9. Voilŕ, c’est tout, mais c’est déjŕ pas si mal.
