Today Nokia have finally announced the Nokia Surge full-QWERTY equipped side-slider. Packing an extraordinary design the new handset runs on the S60 and packs advanced messaging features and a distinct youthful appeal. We have to admit that the handset looks a lot better on the official photos than it used to on those leaked shots. Nokia Surge packs a 2.4" 16M-color display of QVGA resolution. Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual-band UMTS with HSDPA 3.6Mbps support provide the network data transfers, while Bluetooth, USB and a 2.5 mm audio jack cover the local connectivity. It's worth noting that the Nokia Surge sports the huge 1500 mAh battery that managed to impress us on Nokia E71. The list of interesting features of the device is completed by 128 MB of internal memory, expandable by up to 8GB through the microSD card slot, as well as FM radio, A-GPS and a 2 megapixel camera. The AT&T-exclusive Nokia Surge also comes complete with a host of carrier-related services, including AT&T Navigator, Yellowpages.com, Where, AT&T Music, Mobi TV, Video Share, JuiceCaster and AT&T Mobile Banking. Nokia Surge will be available through AT&T stores and at its online shop before the end of the month. It will set you back 79.99 USD with a two-year service agreement and after a mail-in rebate.
Fancy a multitouch device branded Sony Ericsson and running the Android OS? What if it had a 12 megapixel camera on board with Xenon flash? Too bad that this is only a concept and I’m talking about Sony Ericsson Tatino, created by Esato board user tob!s. The handset is a high end phone that’s part of the Entertainment Unlimited Series and it also comes with WiFi, a minimalist design and probably tons of internal memory.
Today Nokia officially unveiled the Nokia 3720 classic - a rugged handset, designed to in enviroments where others won't. Coming with IP-54 certification and entry-level feature set, the Nokia 3720 classic will be a direct rival to the Samsung B2100 Xplorer. The body of the handset is made of stainless steel elements, sealed materials and rough textured surface. The back cover is protected against water and dust by a metal screw lock. A couple of days ago we were able to catch a glimpse of In addition to the extra tough body, the Nokia 3720 classic sports a 2.2-inch QVGA TFT display, capable of showing up to 16 million colors. There is also a 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, which can also be used as a flashlight onboard. Bluetooth 2.1 support, FM radio, 2.5 mm audio jack, microUSB and microSD card slot (1GB included in the box) complete the feature-list of the S40 device. Unluckily the 3720 classic doesn’t feature 3G support, leaving the tri-band GPRS/EDGE as its only network data transfer option.
The Nokia 3720 classic is expected to hit the shelves before the end of the summer with an estimated price tag of 125 euro before taxes or subsides. It will be available in Gray and Yellow color versions.
Nokia 3720 classic is the next member of the almost forgotten line of “rugged” devices by the Finnish manufacturer dating back to Nokia 5140. Its IP-54 certification indicates complete dust and splash resistance, while Nokia also claim greatly increased shock resistance.
Photos and specs of the first Android-based Sony Ericsson handset leaked online. Codenamed Sony Ericsson Rachel, the new handset will be the next member of the premium XPERIA brand and will pack top of the line functionality. Sony Ericsson will be the third major manufacturer to join the Android bandwagon, after HTC and Samsung. And what an entry it will be as the Sony Ericsson Rachael looks like one monster of a handset, easily surpassing the other Android handsets announced so far.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Rachael phone is based on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform, that provides a 1GHz CPU and dedicated graphics acceleration. The connectivity options of the chipset are also top-notch with Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G with HSDPA all onboard. The fully-touch operated phone comes complete with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera, a 3.5 mm jack and a standard miniUSB jack. Probably the best part of the Sony Ericsson Rachael is its 4" touchscreen that will to come with the exciting WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels). The official announcement of Sony Ericsson Rachel is scheduled for later this year, but as of now there is no information about the planned availability or pricing of the handset. Along with the Rachael, leaked another Sony Ericsson handset, nicknamed Kiki. It packs a really extraordinary design that is nothing like we've previously seen from Sony Ericsson. According to the source, the Kiki packs some innovative display technology, where the image gets projected on the glass surface on the screen, making it possible to create a 3D screen image. We do however take the Sony Ericsson Kiki with a pinch of salt as it looks suspiciously like one of those fan concepts that the Sony Ericsson fans are so keen on.
Nokia’s more eco friendly than ever and this trend is also followed by designers who like to create concept phones bearing the Finnish company’s brand. This is also the case of Luis Barceló, the creator of Nokia Ink 01, a very neat phone pictured below.
Nokia Ink 01 is made from recycled aluminium, it packs an ultra low power E-ink display and it’s very easy to disassemble. The percentage of recyclable materials in it is pretty high, as it aims to protect the environment and we all know that aluminium can be recycled almost endlessly. Instead of the standard mechanical keys, Nokia Ink 01 comes with a capacitive sensor, so there are less separate parts to use.
There’s also a mini OLED display on board, allowing the users to view the photographs they take with the aid of the incorporated camera. The handset uses a silver-zinc battery, instead of the Li-Ion standard unit, and this type of battery is 95% recyclable and it generates 40% more energy density.
